Running in the dark

Now when the Swedish wonderful summer is drawing closer to the autumn I need to share a real runner tip with everyone that wants to keep running in the woods even if there is a slight drizzle of rain or the darkness is hitting earlier than before. In not too long the darkness will descend upon us earlier and earlier and it is actually already starting to get really dark in the night.

So a light on the forehad and a cap to keep the light rain out of your face would not be a bad idea?

Well here it is.

49:- SEK at Clas Ohlson store

This is a proper cap in nice material with their logo on the side and which got 5 LED lights built into the cap rim that will show you the road in the darkness. It is powered by 2xCR2032 (wristwatch style) batteries and will light for many hours on the roads and in the woods while keeping your face dry (from rain).

And for the price, buy two!

The light switch is in the cap, easy to reach and hitten under the fabric. Turn it on and off as you please while never missing a stride!

I can’t work out if that’s madness or genius!

Admittedly I’ve never liked running with a headtorch, but that’s mainly to do with the limited field of vision (can’t see that the cap would really be bright enough?)

The LEDs in the cap is actually brighter than one of the older head torches I have and it gives a good enough light when it is dark to not trip over any roots or stones on the path.

I was amazed actually how clever this was, I was told that using a cap like this was good for running in rain and then someone else recommended head torch for running in the dark and this is so light and easy compared to using both so that’s just great.

Shall I send one to you for trying out? It’s like £4 or something so no big deal (probably the shipping is about the same :)

It’s probably not useful for climbing where you need a hard hat, but if you do climbing in bad light conditions that does not for some reason require a hard hat then I think this would be great for that as well.

Come to think of it, the batteries are worth the price for the cap actually :)

Yeah I’d love to try one actually, seems like a great bit of kit for dark but not quite pitch black.

It’d probably be fantastic for walking/scrambling too actually, I do hate wearing the headtorch without a helmet as the one I have is rather hefty (and super bright, I bought it for winter snow and ice climbing).

So do they all come in black or do they do other colours?
